It’s that time of the year when I ramp up my sticks and crooks in preparation for the Christmas market. Sticks and crooks make great Christmas presents and something a loved one will have for years to come. Over the next few weeks I will be adding all of my stock to my website.

Next up we have 3 lovely cream welsh mountain rams horn crooks. All have plenty of character and very strong ready for a good day on the farm or in the field.

Ram Oct A

First up we have this beautiful crook with lovely reddish brown shank and nice bit of horn. At just under 52″ in length its good looking dependable strong crook for just £165.00 SOLD BB

Ram Oct B

Second up we have this little character filled crook, smaller than the others with plenty of blushing on the horn (from where the ram has been scrapping!). Measuring  approximately 52″ is a perfect companion to work with on the farm or take for a walk. A bargain at £150.00! RESERVED MD

Last up we have this stunner measuring approx 53.5″ in length, it has a hidden bit of interest of a black streak on the inside on the nose to around the arch of the handle (tricky to see in a profile pic but you can just about make it out if you zoom in a bit!) .

I have three beautiful black buffalo horn crook on hazel shanks looking for a good home. All three are slightly smaller and lighter than most of the rams horn crooks I sell. They look very smart and are great for anyone who prefers black over cream, they look the part in the field, on your peg or on the farmyard or great just to pick up and take to the local countryside with the dog too.

I am delighted to be able to offer this mighty fine Jacobs Horn crook to anyone who would like it. This beautiful crook measures approximately 52″ in height, the opening in the head is 3″. A larger heavy crook suitable for a gentleman I would suggest. Due its beauty, the cost of the horn and its rarity this crook is priced at £350 and will make a great and unique present.

 

 

Red deer antler thumb sticks now available! Everyone seems to love an antler thumb stick!

I have a lovely selection of antler thumb sticks available this year – antler thumb sticks are very popular as they are hard wearing, forgiving, nice and tactile to hold and look pretty attractive too!  The antler comes from the red deer when the deers shed their antlers at the end of the winter in the Highlands of Scotland.

All sticks can be shortened at no extra cost before fitting a brass ferrule.

The top 3 (A, B and C) are available linseed oiled and the bottom 3 (D, E and F) are varnished with 3 coats of yacht varnish. I will be applying more oil to these top three so will be a bit shinier if you order one.

Horn Crooks Now Available For Christmas! (December 2018)

It’s that time of the year again folks when I get an influx of enquiries for stick and crooks for Christmas. Well, I’m pleased to say I have a great selection of crooks in rams horn and one in buffalo horn.  As before each crooks has it’s own description beneath it and together with the length and the price.  All sticks can be shortened if needed and will come with a brass ferrule fitted. These are natural products so will have natural imperfections. All crooks are extremely strong and the horn ones are suitable to work with.

Beautiful Handmade Thumb Sticks For Sale

I have a small selection of beautifully crafted thumb sticks in native British woods, two in red deer antler and one in the less native buffalo horn.

All handmade and may contain natural imperfections as expected with wood. These sticks make the perfect companion for a walk in the countryside, hill walking, or taking the dog out.

UK P&P £20 for up to three sticks.

BACS payment is my preferred method of payment but can accept payment via Paypal with a 3% fee.

All lovingly handmade from mainly British native wood and ready for the perfect country walk. Whilst the wooden crooks are strong I would not suggest wrestling a sheep with one and would recommend a rams horn crook for such purposes. As with all natural products there will be natural imperfections which do add to the charm.

It’s that time of the year again when I have a few crooks and other sticks to sell. These sticks are hand made using the finest Welsh mountain ram horn and quality seasoned hazel shanks. These are some of the best I have seen in terms of the quality of the horn and the lovely mottled shanks that feature on so many of them.

As with any natural product some may show natural imperfections in the horn or wood but just add to the unique charm of these beautiful crooks. The red areas present in the horn on some of the crooks is called blushing and a sign of a ram that enjoyed a good fight!

Rams Horn Nov Crook I – As I pick these up to write a desription I can see merits in each and every crook. They really are such lovely things to hold and use. I’ve had a crook for several years and still love to pick it up out of the stick rack in the hall and take it out on walks. They age beautifully and looked after well will last a lifetime. I digress …. This wonderful crook has a darker hazel shank, more chocolate than some of the others which gives lovely contrast to the cream rams horn handle. Rams Horn Nov Crook J – Another stunning piece of rams horn, interestingly a split character, on one side of the horn there is barely a mark and on the other side are the scars (blushing) from the fights this ram has got himself involved in. Possibly for that special someone in your life! Rams Horn Nov Crook L – A darker combination than some of the others, possibly the marmite of the bunch, you will either love it or hate it! This shank is chestnut rather than hazel so will be a little springier. Plenty of character, nice colours going on in the horn with a tale to tell.
