Is black the new cream?

With a shortage of rams horn this year I had very few cream crooks or market sticks, in fact I just have one cream rams horn market stick left.

However, I have a few Buffalo horn crooks which are beautiful looking sticks and perfect for working in the fields, on your peg or going for a country stroll.

All sticks are made from natural products and will show slight imperfections adding to their charm and individuality. Wood and horn can easily be waxed or buffed up to keep a good shine if that’s what you wish or they will take on a lovely patina from just using them. These are all varnished to protect them but I find a little wax or polish will keep them in tip top condition.

All sticks can be shortened and once sold will be fitted with a brass ferrule before shipping. UK postage and packaging is £20 and Europe £50 – I do not send to USA or Australia

Antler Thumb Sticks For Sale

I have four lovely antler thumb sticks available in time for Christmas and one lovely buffalo lyre thumb sticks. These are the only antler/horn thumb sticks I will have before Christmas and once they are gone they are gone.

Of all the sticks I sell these are probably the most popular as everyone seems to love a bit of red deer antler and it does look wonderful mounted onto a nice shank.

Red deer shed their antlers annually and I have a supplier who collects it from a couple of estates in the Highlands of Scotland.

Antler thumb stick A is a lovely piece of antler on a silvery hazel shank measuring approx 51″ to the v and capped in Ox horn. Nice and dark on one side and whiter on the reverse, its a nice looking stick looking for a country ramble. Feels better in the right hand than the left – £65 SOLD JK

Antler thumb stick B is a very attractive stick feeling better in the left hand than the right but fairly ambidextrous. Capped on one side with Ox horn and mounted on an attractive hazel shank. Measuring approx 53″ to the v and like all of my sticks can be shortened before I fit a ferrule – £60 SOLD JK

Antler thumb stick C is a real corker looking for its forever home in the countryside. Lovely bit of red deer antler capped in buffalo horn and a beautiful darker chocolatey hazel shank. Antler thumb stick D is a simpler stick, not capped but rounded off and varnished to seal it. A nice looking thumb stick meaning approx 54″ to the v on a lovely hazel shank. Finally the odd one in the bunch is a very nice looking black buffalo thumb stick.

A classic stick that tends to sell fairly soon after posting them on here or my Facebook page. This shape is called a Lyre handle and made from black buffalo horn. Its a wonderful material that is easy to polish and was well with age. A very popular stick to see in the field whilst on peg or perfect for the daily dog walk. I have a lovely selection of antler thumb sticks available this year – antler thumb sticks are very popular as they are hard wearing, forgiving, nice and tactile to hold and look pretty attractive too! The antler comes from the red deer when the deers shed their antlers at the end of the winter in the Highlands of Scotland.

The top 3 (A, B and C) are available linseed oiled and the bottom 3 (D, E and F) are varnished with 3 coats of yacht varnish. I will be applying more oil to these top three so will be a bit shinier if you order one.

Beautiful Handmade Thumb Sticks For Sale

I have a small selection of beautifully crafted thumb sticks in native British woods, two in red deer antler and one in the less native buffalo horn.

All handmade and may contain natural imperfections as expected with wood. These sticks make the perfect companion for a walk in the countryside, hill walking, or taking the dog out.

UK P&P £20 for up to three sticks.

BACS payment is my preferred method of payment but can accept payment via Paypal with a 3% fee.

New Rams Horn Stock September 2015 – this is it before Christmas!

Here we have 12 lovely crooks in Welsh mountain rams horn, buffalo horn and two stunningly fabulous Jacobs rams horn crooks. This is unfortunately all of the stock I can get before Christmas so once they are gone they are gone. All crooks have been expertly made by an experienced stick maker and if looked after will last for several years to come. As with any handmade and natural products they will have blemishes and marks expected from horn and wood. The pinky red areas on the rams horn is called ‘blushing’ from where the ram has been fighting! These are some of the best crooks you will find in the country so treat yourself or a loved one now for that perfect country companion!
