Two Jacobs Rams Horn Crooks Now Available!

Delighted to be able to share with you some very rare Jacobs horn crooks for sale. I had three available but one has sold the moment it was finished so I’m now offering Crook B and Crook C.

Crook B is just over 52″ in length on a lovely mottled markings on the hazel shank. The horn has lovely markings running through the horn – SOLD

Crook C is just under 52″ in length on a lighter coloured shank with a horn spacer. The horn has lovely markings again as you would expect from this exceptional material – £375

Crooks can be shortened before I fit a ferrule.

Looking for something a little different for the weekend?

I have four splendid wooden crooks here all ready to head out the workshop for a lovely autumnal walk.

All sticks are made from wood and will show slight imperfections adding to their charm and individuality. Wood can easily be waxed or buffed up to keep a good shine if that’s what you wish or they will take on a lovely patina from just using them. These are all varnished to protect them but I find a little wax or polish will keep them in tip top condition.

All sticks can be shortened and once sold will be fitted with a brass ferrule before shipping. UK postage and packaging is £20 and Europe £50 – I do not send to USA or Australia

Generally I’d not recommend wooden crooks as working crooks as the crook will inevitably snap if wrestling a sheep, however 3 of these are laminated so will be stronger and should take a bit more punishment – if you dare!

First up we have this beautiful crook with Beech outers and Purple Heart wood in the centre. All glued up in a gig as a three ply laminate left to dry before the shape of the crook is cut out, filed and sanded into shape.

Measuring approx 51.5″ to the top it is a nice looking and strong crook with hazel shank looking for fun in the countryside – £90

Next up we have a lovely looking Lacewood crook on hazel shank measuring approx 52″ to the v. A bit less jazzy than the others listed but a great looking crook which feels great in the hand. Perfect for a trip to the pub once they reopen! £85 SOLD LL

My personal favourite this beautiful laminated Beech and Purple Heart shepherds crook with hazel shank is truly beautiful. Strong, stocky and attractive it has everything going for it. It measures approx 51.5″ in length on a chunky chocolatey hazel shank. A real corker for just £95

Finally and possibly the showstopper to some people is this very attractive and useful beauty!

I could pretty much guarantee you will not see another one of these on your travels at the moment! A very attractive and strong crook, probably too good to use on the farm and I know many collectors follow me looking for something unusual so here it is!

Plywood core with American Walnut outers on a lovely mottled hazel shank. A cracking Christmas present for loved one or for yourself!

I have four lovely antler thumb sticks available in time for Christmas and one lovely buffalo lyre thumb sticks. These are the only antler/horn thumb sticks I will have before Christmas and once they are gone they are gone.

Of all the sticks I sell these are probably the most popular as everyone seems to love a bit of red deer antler and it does look wonderful mounted onto a nice shank.

Red deer shed their antlers annually and I have a supplier who collects it from a couple of estates in the Highlands of Scotland.

Antler Thumb Stick A

Antler thumb stick A is a lovely piece of antler on a silvery hazel shank measuring approx 51″ to the v and capped in Ox horn. Nice and dark on one side and whiter on the reverse, its a nice looking stick looking for a country ramble. Feels better in the right hand than the left – £65 SOLD JK

Antler Thumb Stick B

Antler thumb stick B is a very attractive stick feeling better in the left hand than the right but fairly ambidextrous. Capped on one side with Ox horn and mounted on an attractive hazel shank. Measuring approx 53″ to the v and like all of my sticks can be shortened before I fit a ferrule – £60 SOLD JK

Antler Thumb Stick C

Antler thumb stick C is a real corker looking for its forever home in the countryside. Lovely bit of red deer antler capped in buffalo horn and a beautiful darker chocolatey hazel shank. It feels slightly better in the left hand than the right but fairly ambidextrous again. Measuring approx 52.5″ to the v its the perfect Christmas gift for your loved one or yourself! £70 SOLD MP

Antler Thumb Stick D

Antler thumb stick D is a simpler stick, not capped but rounded off and varnished to seal it. A nice looking thumb stick meaning approx 54″ to the v on a lovely hazel shank. Feels great in the right hand and ok in the left. A nice stick ready for the country walk over the fields to the pub with the dog – £55 SOLD MD

Finally the odd one in the bunch is a very nice looking black buffalo thumb stick.

Buffalo Thumb Stick E

A classic stick that tends to sell fairly soon after posting them on here or my Facebook page. This shape is called a Lyre handle and made from black buffalo horn. Its a wonderful material that is easy to polish and was well with age. A very popular stick to see in the field whilst on peg or perfect for the daily dog walk. Lovely pair of Rams horn market sticks now available

On the run up to Christmas Each week I will be listing a few sticks I have for sale. There has been a limited selection of rams horn available this year so my stock levels are low.

Here we have a pair of welsh mountain rams horn market sticks, perfect for a walk, a days shooting, or for working on the farm. I love a market stick personally as they are great to lean on whilst out with friends and you stop for a drink. One of my personal favourite sticks is a market stick and it probably comes out with me more than any other.

As always these are handmade using traditional techniques. The handles do have extra strength nowadays compared to the older method with a piece of threaded steel bar rather than a wooden dowel or peg making the joint difficult to break.

Due to the nature of natural products there will be blemishes etc in the horn or wood but add to the rustic character of my sticks.

Market Stick A is the larger and heavier of the two (pictured right above) and feels great in the hand. Measuring approx 52″ in length on a lovely silvery hazel shank and a perfect country companion. £150 SOLD AM

Buffalo Crooks Now Back In Stock!

Finally we have five more rams horn crooks available for Christmas! This may be it for now so once they are gone they are gone. All cream crooks are made from Welsh mountain rams horn and have plenty of character. The red markings in the horn is called blushing and is from where the rams have been fighting! These are lovely examples of traditional shepherds crooks and can be great for anything from the country walk with the dog, a trip to the pub, working around the farm or on your peg during the shooting season. They are very strong, made with a piece of threaded bar between handle and shank very hard to break at the joint. With some care they should last several years or even a lifetime!

Antler A – First up we have this lovely dark coloured handle in antler on silvery hazel shank measuring approx 52″ to the v. Tipped in buffalo horn. Feels great in the right hand, less so great in the left due to the curve on the antler – £60 SOLD GL

B Antler

Antler B – A beautiful antler thumb stick with red deer antler handle on golden hazel shank and capped in buffalo and ox horn. A wonderful looking and study stick at approx 53″ to the v. Feels great in the right hand and perfect for that county ramble – £75 SOLD MW

C Antler

Antler C – A lighter weight thumb stick on chestnut shank measuring approximately 50″ to the v. Due to the chestnut shank its much more springy which could be an advantage to some. Tipped in buffalo horn with an ox horn spacer.  Ideal for a right handed lady looking for a walking companion – £50

D Antler

Antler D – A wonderful golden antler thumb stick with lovely golden tones in the antler and shank, One tine (pointy bit) is capped in buffalo and the other left natural, with an ox horn spacer.  A classic and sturdy thumb stick measuring approx 53″ to the v ready for winter in the countryside. E Antler

Antler E – This one is a bit more natural not having the benefit of varnish like most of the others. That said some people prefer them natural so they can oil them with linseed oil. Lovely natural brown tones going on with ox horn capping the tines, ox horn spacer and interesting markings on the hazel shank. Measuring almost 54″ in height Im hoping there are plenty of lefties out there (I’m one!) as this feels fabulous in the left hand. A lovely stick – £65 SOLD LT

F Antler

Antler F – A nice lighter weight antler thumb stick capped in ox horn with ox horn spacer. Measuring approx 54″ to the v its a perfect country companion to keep by the front door ready for the dog walk – personally it feels better in the left hand than the right – £60 SOLD KM

Antler G – Its a cracker and its ambidextrous! Feels great in either the left or right hand and looks stunning. A lighter shade of antler on a mottled hazel shank measuring 53″ to the v. Capped with a nice bit of ox horn and nice contrasting buffalo horn spacer. A real beauty – £70 SOLD AL

Antler H – Shorter tines on this one but a lovely pretty thumb stick, capped with ox horn and with an ox horn spacer this lovely stick measures just under 52″ to the v. Feels ok in the right hand but nicer in the left! A very attractive and useful thumb sticks for just £60

Wooden Crooks

I receive a few enquiries each year for a crook not made of horn, sometimes this is a present for a vegetarian or just someone that doesn’t need the strength of a rams horn crook and just enjoys a beautiful bit of wood to take out on the dog walk.

Ram Oct A

First up we have this beautiful crook with lovely reddish brown shank and nice bit of horn. At just under 52″ in length its good looking dependable strong crook for just £165.00 SOLD BB

Second up we have this little character filled crook, smaller than the others with plenty of blushing on the horn (from where the ram has been scrapping!). Measuring  approximately 52″ is a perfect companion to work with on the farm or take for a walk. A bargain at £150.00! RESERVED MD

Last up we have this stunner measuring approx 53.5″ in length, it has a hidden bit of interest of a black streak on the inside on the nose to around the arch of the handle (tricky to see in a profile pic but you can just about make it out if you zoom in a bit!) .
